About the Game
What makes The Outer Line different
The Outer Line is a single-player tactical space RTS set in 2149, on the contested frontier where three factions clash over resource-rich Gravity Well clusters.
You command small fleets where every ship counts. There are no massive swarms or disposable units. Losses hurt. Positioning matters. The tactical pause lets you think through every engagement without time pressure.
At the center of your fleet is the Mobile Shipyard, a capital ship that serves as your mobile base of operations. You customize it with modules, produce your fleet from it, and protect it at all costs. If your Shipyard goes down, the fight is over.
Operations mode adds a persistent meta-layer: you serve as a faction commander, take on operations for your faction, and compete across a shared strategic map that evolves with seasonal campaigns.
Small Fleets, Big Decisions
Every ship matters. Losses are felt. Tactical positioning and fleet composition win battles, not numbers.
Gravity Well Warfare
Fight across a single strategic map dotted with Gravity Wells. Each one is a tactical arena with asteroids, structures, and chokepoints.
Mobile Shipyard
Your capital ship is your base. A modular, upgradeable Mobile Shipyard that produces your fleet and defines your strategy.
Tactical Pause
Pause time at any moment to issue orders, analyze threats, and plan your next move. Deliberate combat, not click-speed races.
Jump Drive Logistics
Ships travel between Gravity Wells via Jump Drives with charge-up, transit, and stabilization phases. Timing your jumps is half the battle.
Three Factions
USF (balanced doctrine), ORI (armored hulls), NEC (superior shields). Each faction changes how you build and fight.
Three Game Modes
Skirmish, Strategic Campaign, and Global War. Your Mobile Shipyard persists across campaign missions. In Global War, every player's victories shift a shared strategic map.
About the Developer
The Outer Line is developed by Alessandro De Poli, a solo indie developer. The game is built in Unity 6 and is currently in active development.
The project started from a desire to make an RTS that values deliberate decision-making over speed. A game where losing a single frigate changes the shape of a battle, and where your fleet feels like something you built rather than something you spawned.
Development updates are published regularly through the developer diary, and narrative fiction set in the game's universe is available in the field dispatches.
